SUMMER 2004: SOME COMING EVENTS
1. Christian Aid Service May 9th 6pm at St Mary’s church Fairford.
2. Rogation Procession May 16th - meet in the Square at 9.45. St Mary’s Fairford lead the section in the Square, St Thomas’s at the Ox-pens, the Base Chapel in the Fields and the United Church at the Chapel. We aim to be at the Chapel for 10.30 and those who wish can join the short service that follows there or go off to their own services.
3. Fairford Festival ‘Songs of Praise’ on Sunday 6th June at 4pm in the Marquee in the Walnut Field.
NEWS FROM THE CHURCHES
Chaplain Garvey arrives in May, to replace Rev William Toguchi who will be moving to Oklahoma.
The temporary closure of Mildenhall has meant an increase in personnel at the Base. Regular ‘Ice-cream socials’ are being held to support the men and women – some are single and some are married with their families remaining behind in Suffolk.
Easter Day was Rev Michael Cole’s last Sunday. He and Jackie have now moved to Urchfont.
United Congregational / Methodist Church (Milton Street Fairford)
Rev Tony Barnes, the new Methodist circuit minister with responsibility for Fairford, will arrive in July, to replace Rev Ruth Carter who is retiring to Bristol.
The Sunday School is raising money for the Camp Hill Trust in the Forest of Dean.
The Toddler Group set up by Val Dunlop and Kathleen Hall celebrated its 10th anniversary recently, an example of Christian care in this community.
St Thomas’s Roman Catholic (Horcott, Fairford)
The new parish priest, Fr Patrick Eastman, should arrive late May, replacing Fr Antony Feyer.
St Mary’s Fairford Parish Church (Market Place, Fairford)
John Willard’s farewell service was held on May 2nd at 3pm – a packed church was filled by people who travelled from near and far to demonstrate their deep respect and affection for John and Rachael. St Mary’s now awaits a replacement vicar.
Less formal services led by young Christians are planned: July 4th - Prayer and Praise : August 1st - People’s Praise : Sept 5th - Prayer and Praise.
