League of Friends Update – Summer 2008

Prospect Hospice. The agreement with the Prospect hospice to provide terminal care support for patients of the Fairford and Lechlade surgeries is working well and families have expressed great thanks for all the help provided. The agreement is funded by the League of Friends at no cost to the patient or their family. We aim to provide as complete a package of support as is possible and the cost is considerable for the league. Please click here If you would like to make a donation to support this work.

X-ray Facility at Fairford Hospital. The Primary Care Trust has now appointed a project manager to oversee the necessary structural work and installation of a new state of the art digital X-ray facility at Fairford Hospital. The League is purchasing the actual equipment at a cost of £70,000. This is a major expense will ensure better on site support for the outpatient clinics as well as providing an X-ray service for local people thereby avoiding a trip to Cirencester. The facility is scheduled to open in 2008.

Foot Care Services. The League has reached agreement with the Primary Care Trust to set up a foot care service for those who need it. The service will be funded by the League and will begin as soon as staff are recruited. Full details of the service will be published once it is ready to start.

Volunteer Car Service. In the face of a 30 % increase in fuel costs this year, the League has reluctantly had to increase the charges for all short and long journeys. The new costs will be effective immediately and advised to patients when they book transport through the Doctors’ surgeries.

Physiotherapy. The League has reviewed the free physiotherapy service it has provided in conjunction with the NHS. The service will continue with the League ‘buying’ extra physio time in order to reduce the waiting times for local patients.
