Around Fairford Through Time

Local historian, June Lewis-Jones, has a new book out published by Amberley Publishing in Stroud entitled 'Around Fairford Through Time'.

It is a wonderful collection of old and new photographs of Fairford and the surrounding area. The older images are printed alongside contemporary full colour photographs, which illustrate similar or related scenes. The contrasting illustrations show how the area has changed and developed during the last 100 years and feature shops, schools, garages, churches, houses and street scenes.

Most of the book is dedicated to Fairford as it is the largest settlement in the area, but it also covers Eastleach, Hatherop, Quenington, Coln St Aldwyns, Meysey Hampton and Kempsford.

This book is an ideal coffee table book and will inspire much reminiscing and discussion as to how places change, whether for the better or worse.

It is not only about places and buildings, but the people who have helped make Fairford and the surrounding area such strong communities. There will be some sad moments as local people remember those no longer with us, but it is good that the book will make their memory endure.
