 January Flood Threat

Flood Defences

Following persistent rain, some of it heavy, the Environment Agency issued a Flood Watch for the River Coln from Compton to Lechlade on 14th January. The Flood Watch remained in place for over a week.

The Town Council arranged for sand and sandbags to be delivered to their yard off the A417.  Police and others put new sandbags along the Coln at White Hart Court (see left).

The River Coln overflowed its banks into the water meadows between Mill Bridge and Town Bridge (see right) and further downstream at Dilly's Bridge. Gardens were flooded and one cottage, but the worst fears were not realised.

Many Fairford residents are still unable to live in their homes which were flooded in July.
