GP Dispensary Under Threat

Please Write a Letter

A recent Government White Paper has suggested major changes to GP dispensing which would mean that Fairford's Dispensary at Hilary Cottage Surgery would have to close, together with most other GP dispensaries in the country. This is all still at the consultation stage and it looks as though decisions may well be influenced by  local opposition to the changes. We have been told that individual letters are more effective than petitions.

The effect on our practice patients would be:

  • Dispensing patients would no longer be able to collect medication when visiting their GP

  • Loss of a high quality Dispensary, overseen by both the practice Pharmacist and GPs and highly trained staff, which is generally hugely appreciated by patients.

  • The need to make a separate journey to a retail pharmacist.

  • Restriction of patient choice as to where they obtain their medications

  • Loss of income from the Dispensary would inevitably lead to a reduction in services provided by the practice

  • The loss of the Dispensary would affect all our patients

Please write a letter before November 20th 2008, outlining how closure of this Dispensary would affect you.
